May 1st is the opening of duck hunting season in Uruguay. Los Gauchos Outfitters schedules up to one year in advance and we usually book the Uruguay duck hunting trips beginning the 2nd week of May. Duck hunting does have some elements controlled by mother nature and while Los Gauchos Outfitters does everything we can to provide the best duck hunting days, mother nature tends to take control every now and then.
Los Gauchos Outfitters is proud of our new arrangement and Duck Hunting Club in the Rio Branco area of Uruguay, On private rice fields and a large private ranch that focuses on rice grains and crops, this area is outstanding for duck hunting in Uruguay. The ranch is supplied with irrigation systems so that water is provided throughout the duck hunting season. Rice bait is supplied to the fields and duck hunters are scheduled to take part in shooting the Uruguay ducks that come into the decoys and the rice bait every morning and afternoon during the Uruguay duck hunting season.

- How long is the duck hunting packages Los Gauchos Outfitters provides?
Three days or four days is the standard for the Uruguay duck hunting trips. The schedule is to arrive and hunt the first afternoon (1/2 day) - hunt 2 or 3 full days (morning and afternoon duck hunts) - and have one last good morning duck hunt on the day of departure.
- What is the limit on duck hunting in Uruguay?
A question that Los Gauchos and the duck hunting guides answers by instilling a limit of 3 boxes of shells in the morning and 3 boxes of shells in the afternoon. Obviously, a good duck hunter can take 75 ducks every duck hunt with this "limit". Take 'em - the ducks are there and Los Gauchos Outfitters respects the shooting sports and missions of Ducks Unlimted and Delta Waterfowl, so remember, Los Gauchos Outfitters has been providing outstanding duck hunting for over 8 years and we look forward to providing amazing duck hunting in Uruguay for the 80 years!
- What is required for hunting in Uruguay - entering the country and getting a gun or hunting license?
Los Gauchos Outfitters will provide you will all the Data Forms needed to obtain a hunting and/or gun license in Uruguay. The Uruguay hunting regulatory agencies process hunting licenses prior to your arrival, so Los Gauchos Outfitters must have your data at least 25 days prior to your arrival into Uruguay. The data includes basics such as name as it appears on your passport, birthday, passport number, date of passport expiration, flight arrival times, companies, and flight numbers.
If you will be entering Uruguay with your own shotgun, Los Gauchos Outfitters will supply you with a Uruguay Gun Form. The information needed is the same as above with the addition of the make,model, gauge, type (semi, auto, over and under) , and serial number(s) of your shotgun. Los Gauchos Outfitters is located in the US with a full time office that can assist with any questions you may have about traveling with your shotgun or entering Uruguay with your duck hunting shotgun.

The Los Gauchos Outfitters Uruguay Duck Hunting Club has moved and improved! In the Rio Branco area of Uruguay (northeast part of Uruguay) the lodge is a fine lodge with modern amenities and old duck hunting club charms. There is internet, satellite tv, and full time professional chef that prepares three meals and snacks for our Uruguay duck hunters. The lodge is based on double occupancy and Los Gauchos Outfitters can host up to 8 hunters per week. Due to the rice farm and distant location of the Uruguay Duck Hunting Club-Lodge, we do not promote this destination for non-hunters. However, please contact our office as Los Gauchos Outfitters has several destinations that are perfect for the wing shooter, duck hunter and their non-hunting guests.
- I would like to bring some Uruguay ducks back and have them mounted. Can Los Gauchos Outfitters help me with this?
Yes, but to help Los Gauchos Outfitters recommends you DO NOT bring or think about bringing ducks back from Uruguay. This is a regulation of Uruguay as well as many of the commercial airlines .
